The Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Mallorca consolidates Mallorca as one of the world's most important luxury tourist destinations.

Mallorca was as beautiful as only she knows how to be – and as she usually is – to offer the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, one of Forbes Travel’s ‘Best Hotels 2026,’ the grand opening it deserves. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place under the most perfect circumstances: a warm late-July afternoon, an impeccable blue sky, the relaxing sound of cicadas, the occasional lute and a few yachts on waters as flat as a mirror – and guests – including Forbes Travel – enjoyed a party that marked the official launch – after the soft opening took place on June 1 – of the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Mallorca.

The complex – the historic Hotel Punta Negra, which was managed by H10 during its final phase – begins this new chapter under the management of Grupo Coppel and Blasson Property Investments, who acquired it in 2021 and added it to their portfolio, which includes properties such as the Four Seasons Hotel Sevilla, the Hotel Corso Puerto Ibiza, and the Mandarin Oriental Residences complex in Madrid.

Paco Melià, CEO of Blasson Property Investments, praised the work done in recent years to realize the complex’s full potential and position it as a global benchmark. He also expressed his gratitude for the welcome he had received from the founding family, assuring them that “the legacy is in good hands,” and praised Mandarin Oriental’s signature service-focused management model. “We have worked tirelessly over the last few years to unleash the full architectural and natural potential of this site, transforming it into a world-class resort.” The transformation of the resort—only the main building of the former Punta Negra hotel, which is a listed building, was retained; the rest of the buildings on the resort are new constructions—required an investment of around 200 million euros.

Institutional presence

The authorities did not want to miss the ribbon-cutting ceremony: the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, the Councillor for Tourism, Jaume Bauzà, and the President of the Island Council, Llorenç Galmés, attended the event, during which the general manager of the complex, Duarte Correia, stated that the goal was for Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Mallorca to become an “iconic” destination, “where we can create must-have experiences for our visitors,” and establish it as “one of the best resorts in the Mediterranean.”

Mandarin Oriental in Spain

This is the third property managed by the prestigious Mandarin Oriental chain in Spain, and the first in the Balearic Islands. Amanda Hyndman, Mandarin Oriental’s Director of Operations, emphasized the multinational’s philosophy when entering a market as established as that of the Balearic Islands. “Our top priority with this new initiative is to create a vibrant destination and community, while always showing the deepest respect for the rich history and people of Mallorca.”

Fine dining and a prime location

Situated right on the seafront, a stone’s throw from Palma de Mallorca and with direct access to two coves, the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra features a total of 131 rooms and suites, as well as nine villas, private access to the coves, and a variety of dining options that include six dining venues -Matsuhisa: Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature fine dining; Leña, chef Dani García’s gastronomic concept; Jacinta, serving Mexican cuisine; Leppoc, specializing in Mediterranean dishes; Sobretaula, a more informal tapas bar; and the Thalos pool bar. A top-tier culinary offering that further enhances the appeal of a hotel that, above all, helps to solidify the position of Mallorca—and, by extension, the Balearic Islands—as one of the world’s most important luxury tourist destinations.
