Gran Meliá offers experiences in the Balearic Islands to observe the total solar eclipse on August 12

On August 12, a total solar eclipse will be visible from several parts of Spain, including the Balearic Islands. The totality phase will take place between 8:27 PM and 8:33 PM, coinciding with sunset over the Mediterranean. Additionally, the event coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, bringing together two of the year’s main astronomical phenomena on the same night.

To commemorate this event, Gran Meliá has designed two special packages at its hotels in Mallorca and Menorca – Hotel de Mar and Villa Le Blanc, respectively – both of which are part of The Leading Hotels of the World network. The packages are designed for eclipse viewing and include accommodation, transportation, and a series of area-related activities.

One of the key elements is observing the phenomenon from the sea. In Mallorca, the experience will take place aboard a Rivamare vessel from the Riva company, while in Menorca it will be carried out on a traditional lugger. In both cases, the cruise will take place during the totality, in a private setting with onboard service.

The programs include door-to-door transfers, private plane flights from various European destinations, and stays in suites at both hotels. The package is rounded out with personalized services coordinated by each hotel’s team, as well as complementary activities focused on gastronomy, wellness, and the cultural offerings of each island.

In Mallorca, the program is based at the Gran Meliá Hotel de Mar, located in a building designed by architect José Antonio Coderch, while in Menorca it is based at the Gran Meliá Villa Le Blanc, located opposite Santo Tomás beach. In both cases, stays include personalized service and access to a series of experiences tailored to each destination.

The starting price for these programs is around 200,000 euros, depending on the level of customization and the services included.
