The Superior Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands (CSMB) will close the 2025-2026 academic year with the 3rd Big Band Workshop and the 3rd Symphonic Workshop, two artistic projects directed by composer and trumpeter Natsuko Sugao and conductor Antonio Méndez, respectively.
According to information provided by the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, the third Big Band Workshop will take place from June 15 to 19 under the direction of Sugao, with a focus on performance, arrangements, and composition for large ensembles.
The composer and trumpeter combines a career focused on both performance and big band composition, a facet reflected in works such as ‘Impermanencia de los asuntos’ (2025), which consists entirely of original compositions.
The third Stage Sinfónico will take place from June 15 to 20 and will be conducted by Antonio Méndez, who has an international career leading ensembles such as the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, and the Wiener Symphoniker. In addition to his work in the symphonic field, Méndez has also forged a career in opera.
This final block of performances of the academic year is part of the Conservatory’s academic and artistic program and aims to encourage students to interact directly with working professionals and to experience the dynamics of the performing arts and music world.
With this third edition, the Conservatoire brings an end to the annual series of artist residencies organized throughout the academic year and reinforces its commitment to training linked to professional practice and the development of student performance.
