The regional government is promoting the “Ibrelleu” business succession program in Menorca through informational sessions for business owners and merchants on the island, to familiarize them with this service, which aims to prevent the closure of operating businesses due to a lack of generational continuity.

Specifically, the Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency has presented the program at the Maó City Hall and at the headquarters of the Menorca Merchants Association in Ciutadella.

The purpose of this initiative by the Directorate General for Business, Self-Employed Workers, and Commerce is to promote the transfer, development, and continuity of employment through planned, orderly, and efficient business succession processes.

Through various measures and tools, we help sustain businesses and promote the overall strengthening of the Balearic Islands’ business community.

During the technical sessions held in Menorca, the support, advisory, and networking services offered by ‘Ibrelleu’ throughout the business transfer process were presented.

In addition, the various stages of the process were explained, from the business valuation to the negotiation and finalization of the sale, as well as the advantages of this approach compared to starting a business from scratch, since it reduces risks and leverages existing, well-established structures.

“The ‘Ibrelleu’ program has established itself as a key tool for preserving the local economy and fostering entrepreneurship through existing businesses,” the regional government emphasized.

The regional government has explained that, since 2024, a total of 340 users have been assisted, 140 of whom are sellers—that is, business owners who wish to sell their businesses for various reasons. The remaining 200 are entrepreneurs.

It should also be noted that during this period, a total of fifteen companies have been transferred through the ‘Ibrelleu’ program, and that there are currently about twenty transfer processes underway.

The program features an online marketplace where users can find all the businesses that are up for sale. This platform makes it easy to search for businesses available for sale. Currently, it features about 40 listings that provide key information about each business.

In addition, ‘Ibrelleu’ offers a personalized, impartial, and free advisory service for both the seller and the entrepreneur. This support includes business valuation, posting the listing on the online marketplace, assistance with negotiations, and drafting the legal documentation required for the sale.
