Palma, and by extension the island of Mallorca, has cemented its reputation as a cultural tourism destination following the first edition of the Art Cologne Palma Mallorca fair, which brought together 88 galleries from 20 countries and attracted over 10,000 visitors between April 9 and 12.

The event, held at the Palau de Congressos in Palma, stood out for the caliber of the attendees and the significant presence of international collectors, particularly from Europe and the United States. The final day saw high demand, with tickets sold out.

The fair has combined the international reach of ART COLOGNE—considered one of the landmark events in modern and contemporary art—with the local Balearic scene, represented by 19 galleries from the islands. This integration has fostered interaction among art market professionals, institutions, and collectors.

According to Daniel Hug, the event’s director, the first edition was marked by a high level of international participation, professional exchanges, and strong sales results, confirming Palma’s potential as an artistic hub in the Mediterranean.

For his part, Fran Reus, president of Art Palma Contemporani, emphasized the involvement of the local public and the event’s impact on the island’s cultural profile. In this regard, he noted that the fair helps reinforce Mallorca’s image beyond sun-and-beach tourism, linking it to a well-established cultural scene.

The parallel program, aimed at collectors and guests from the arts and culture sectors, complemented the fair’s activities, along with the exhibition layout—divided into two main sections—which made it easier for participants to navigate the space and interact with one another.

Organized by Koelnmesse in collaboration with institutions such as the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Council of Mallorca, the City Council of Palma, and Art Palma Contemporani, the fair is part of a strategy to establish Mallorca as a cultural hub in Southern Europe.

The organizers have already confirmed that a second edition of ART COLOGNE PALMA MALLORCA will take place from April 1 to 4, 2027, with the aim of solidifying its position on the international art calendar.
