The Michelin Keys, the highest distinction awarded by the Michelin Guide to recognize the world’s most exceptional hotels, have now announced their selection of establishments in Spain, which includes five new additions from the Balearic Islands: three in the two-Key category and two in the one-Key category. In total, the 2026 Michelin Guide’s selection of accommodations in Spain includes 122 distinguished hotels: 5 with three Keys, 17 with two (four of which are receiving this distinction for the first time), and 100 with one (including 16 new additions).
The three new additions to the islands with two Michelin Keys are all located in Mallorca: the Four Seasons Resort Mallorca de Formentor (Pollença), the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra (Calvià), and the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel in Canyamel (Capdepera). As a result, the list of hotels in this category has grown from four to seven, as the Hotel Cap Rocat in Cala Blava (Llucmajor), the Can Cera (Palma), the Can Ferrereta (Santanyí), and La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel (Deià) remain on the list.
The Four Seasons Resort Mallorca is the latest incarnation of one of the island’s great hospitality classics, the Hotel Formentor. Its history dates back to 1929, when Argentine businessman Adán Diehl spearheaded the creation of a hotel that hosted celebrities from around the world, including Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn. Following an extensive renovation that was completed two years ago, the resort has entered a new era while preserving the historic character of the original hotel. It features 110 rooms and suites, restaurants, swimming pools, a spa, and a variety of activities that showcase the surrounding area.
The Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, for its part, is one of the major new developments in Mallorca’s hospitality industry for 2026. Located in Palmanova, the resort redevelops the site of the historic Hotel Punta Negra and transforms it into a new luxury destination. Its seaside location is one of its main attractions. The resort is nestled among Mediterranean gardens, pine trees, and cliffs, with direct access to two small coves. It features 131 rooms and suites, some of which have private pools. The resort’s offerings are rounded out by an exceptional culinary experience, featuring restaurants such as Matsuhisa and Leña Mallorca, as well as wellness facilities.
The third addition, the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel, is located in the Canyamel Valley. The resort is inspired by the traditional layout of Mallorcan villages, with stone buildings, streets, squares, and courtyards that create the feeling of being in a small, inhabited community. The culinary experience is also one of its main pillars, with the VORO restaurant—led by chef Álvaro Salazar—as its crowning jewel. The restaurant holds two Michelin stars and embodies the resort’s commitment to creative cuisine rooted in the local region. The hotel rounds out its offerings with various dining venues, wellness facilities, and a prime location. The fact that these three hotels have achieved the “Two Michelin Keys” designation highlights the diversity of luxury offerings currently emerging in Mallorca.
“Among Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, the Balearic Islands offer one of the most diverse selections of MICHELIN Key-rated hotels in Spain. However, under the same Mediterranean horizon, very different landscapes and sensibilities coexist,” notes the renowned travel guide. It notes that while Mallorca is home to large resorts such as some of those featured, “in Menorca and Formentera, smaller-scale projects and a particularly close connection to the rural landscape predominate.” Examples of this type of offering are the two new hotels awarded a MICHELIN Key: the Vestige Son Ermità (Ferreris) and the Dunas de Formentera.
In total, 29 hotels in the archipelago have been awarded a “One Key” rating. Mallorca accounts for 19 of them: Es Raco d’Artà, Son Bunyola Resort and Villas, Fontsanta Thermal Spa & Wellness, Sa Creu Nova Petit Palais, Predi Son Jaumell, Castell Son Claret, Finca Serena Mallorca, Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden, Convent de La Missió, Grand Luxury Boutique Hotel, Es Princep, Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, Boutique Hotel Posada Terra Santa, Castillo Hotel Son Vida, a Luxury Collection Hotel, El Llorenç Parc de la Mar, Nobis Hotel Palma, Son Brull, and Hotel L’Avenida. In Menorca, there are seven: Torralbenc, Cap Menorca, Faustino Gran, Rural Sant Ignasi, Vestige Son Ermità, Can Alberti 1740 Hotel Boutique, and Cristine Bedford Mahón. Finally, the Pitiusas Islands have three properties: the Petunia Ibiza Beaumier Hotel in Ibiza, and the two in Formentera, Teranka and Dunas.
