Environmental scientist and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences Pablo Rodríguez Ros is the new director of the Fundació Marilles, the organization announced in a press release on Friday. This decision is part of a strategy to strengthen the organization’s leadership team and structure. This initiative also includes a new role at Marilles for the former director, Aniol Esteban, who, after nine years at the helm of the organization, will now focus his efforts on strategic development and fundraising.
In this way, Marilles strengthens the management of a growing foundation, while also consolidating its ability to secure the resources needed to advance marine conservation in the Balearic Sea.
Until now, Rodríguez Ros had been responsible for leading the Marine Protected Areas strategy and the 30×30 goals in the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to his career at the foundation, the new director’s commitment to marine conservation is underpinned by his experience in research and his work in institutional advisory services and consulting, as well as by his efforts to forge links between science, institutions, and society that ensure the transfer of knowledge and the development of evidence-based policies.
Rodríguez Ros has stated that he is taking on this challenge with the hope of seeing it become a well-established project, one that builds on a rich legacy and has the ideas and initiatives to continue advancing the mission that brought it into being: “to make the Balearic Islands a global leader in marine conservation.”
For his part, Esteban is taking on the roles of strategic development and fundraising, feeling very satisfied with the work accomplished and convinced that this new phase will allow for “a stronger and better relationship with the people and institutions allied with Marilles and marine conservation.” Esteban, a marine biologist and environmental economist, has devoted much of his professional career to “reconciling the environment and the economy.”
