The Balearic film Un paseo por el Borne (A Walk Through the Borne), directed by Mallorcan Nick Igea and shot entirely in the city of Palma, has won the award for Best European Film (Meilleur Film d’Europe) at the International Film Festival of Brittany in France. The French festival highlighted the film’s warm and optimistic tone, a story that combines comedy and drama and humanly affirms that it’s never too late to reclaim one’s dreams and get back on the path to what one truly desires.
With this latest award, A Walk Through the Borne has won a total of 48 international awards at festivals in cities such as Vienna, Sydney, Selma (Alabama), London, Paris, Milan, Fort Lauderdale and Riverside (California), Noida (India), Brampton (Canada), Kimolos (Greece), New York and Los Angeles, among others. The film has also been screened in numerous countries, such as Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, the United States, Bolivia, Colombia, and Tanzania.
The film stars Rodolfo Sancho, Natalia Verbeke, and Ruth Gabriel, along with Balearic actors such as Lluís Oliver, Toni-Lluís Reyes, Pedro Orell, Toni Pons, Jaume Fuster, and Lina Mira. The story follows Martín, a man who, years earlier, had failed in his attempt to become a film director in Madrid. After returning to his native Palma, he becomes a bored, bitter person, completely distances himself from the film industry, and decides never to watch another movie again.
However, financial difficulties lead him to accept a job that will change his life: teaching a film course for amateurs. What initially seems like a minor, purely circumstantial task ends up becoming a transformative experience. In the classroom, he meets five students of different ages who share a huge enthusiasm for audiovisual creation. Through his interactions with them, Martín gradually rediscovers the passion for cinema he had lost years before.
*A Stroll Through El Borne*, which has a runtime of 113 minutes, premiered at the Atlántida Mallorca Film Fest in 2024 and was subsequently released in theaters throughout Spain on July 25 of that same year. In early 2025, it began its tour of international film festivals, a journey that continues to this day and has made the film one of the most internationally acclaimed productions from the Balearic Islands. It is currently available on Amazon Prime Video and will soon also be broadcast on IB3 Televisió.
