The Balearic Islands Association of Economists will award its 2026 Gold Medal to businessman and Iberostar Group Chairman Miguel Fluxà, according to a statement released after the institution’s Executive Board unanimously approved the decision.
According to the Association, it highlights Fluxà as a key figure in the transformation of the global tourism sector. Under his leadership, the Majorcan company—which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year—has evolved from its family-run origins into a leading multinational corporation.
“His leadership stands out for its commitment to quality, international expansion, and the development of a pioneering model of responsible tourism that drives positive change in people and destinations,” they note.
The medal presentation will take place during the 24th Diada de los Economistas, which will be held on November 13. During this event, degrees will also be awarded to the new economists who joined the profession throughout 2026, and tribute will be paid to the dedication of its members, with diplomas and honorary plaques being presented to members who are celebrating 25, 35, and 50 years of affiliation and active participation in the institution this year.
