Ibiza has just lost one of its icons: the yacht Lefty, a Jaguar 72 that became famous worldwide when soccer player Lamine Yamal took refuge on it during his 2025 vacation. The yacht was destroyed by fire following a blaze that broke out around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, at the Marina Botafoch marina.

After five hours of battling the flames, the Ibizan firefighters decided to sink the Lefty, from which a column of white smoke—visible from various points on the island—had been rising. Fortunately, no one was on board when the flames began to engulf the vessel’s hold; the boat now lies half-submerged in the harbor’s shallow waters, which are barely four meters deep.

The boats moored next to the Lefty on what is known as the “golden mile” of Balearic moorings were able to be moved in time and sustained no damage. The wreck of the yacht remains partially submerged and surrounded by oil booms to prevent fuel spills. The yacht’s owner must submit a refloating plan, which will be subject to oversight by the port concessionaire, while the insurance company will lead the investigation to determine the causes of the fire, which remain a mystery for now.

The now-submerged Lefty rose to worldwide fame when, in the summer of 2025, it was chosen as Lamine Yamal’s vacation spot at the end of the season. The Barcelona and national team player made headlines (and not just in the sports press) because of his choice, as the yacht’s rental fee was around 5,000 euros per day.

That was Lefty, an icon of luxury

Built by the Jaguar shipyard, the Lefty was a favorite among soccer players, sheikhs, and heirs who visit the Pitiusas Islands every summer. Measuring 23 meters in length, 6 meters in beam, and with 1,300 caballos (969.4 kW) of power, the yacht featured three double cabins and three fully equipped bathrooms, as well as an integrated swim platform, flybridge, sun deck with a bimini top, and water toys such as paddleboards.

Inside, it featured a spacious living-dining room, a flat-screen TV, a state-of-the-art outdoor sound system, and a fully equipped kitchen. It could accommodate up to 12 passengers (plus two crew members), with 6 berths for those who chose to spend the night on board.

Its technical specifications included a draft of 1.2 meters, a 5,000-liter fuel tank—with a fuel consumption of 450 liters per hour—and a 1,000-liter water tank. On boat rental platforms such as Samboat, the Lefty was available for weekly charter with a skipper, at rates that exceeded 5,000 euros per day in June and could surpass 6,000 in July and August, bringing the weekly cost to over 32,000 euros.
