PALMA, 25 (EUROPA PRESS)
The executive vice president of the Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca (FEHM), María José Aguiló, on Friday chose not to declare the high season over yet, stating that it is "in full swing."
In response to questions from the media before the 21st Conference on Risk Management in the Tourism Sector, organized by the consulting firm WTW, Aguiló noted that seasons are lengthening, with 20 percent of establishments open for the entire season, and that in February, March, and April, this figure rises to 40 percent, 70 percent, and even 90 percent, respectively.
However, the hotel association representative highlighted the sector's satisfaction with how the season is progressing and expressed confidence that September and October—with different customer profiles—will also yield good results.
Aguiló explained that, after previous "euphoric" seasons characterized by a "champagne effect," performance is now settling down and stabilizing.
Regarding the decrease in tourist spending on ancillary services, the FEHM vice president highlighted the need for perceptions to be backed by data, although she drew attention to the economic situation facing some of the main source markets, which is leading families to book well in advance and to exercise greater control over their budgets.
Regarding the impact of the war in the Middle East, he noted that while it has meant the loss of a certain type of customer, it has helped attract a different profile, one that is rediscovering destinations.
In his remarks at the event, Juan Carlos Tárraga, Head of Travel and Tourism at WTW, noted that some of the risks, challenges, and threats facing the tourism sector are changing, while others remain constant over time. Tárraga emphasized that, currently, absenteeism, geopolitics, and cybersecurity are the main challenges of the moment.
The conference brings together business representatives and experts in Palma to analyze the main challenges shaping the tourism sector.
