The Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença (RCNPP) is putting the finishing touches on preparations for another edition of the Cormorán Trophy, which will take place from August 20 to 22 in the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia. The competition, one of the highlights of northern Mallorca’s sailing calendar, will bring together a fleet of nearly fifty boats this year, spread across the various participating classes.

Organized by the RCNPP in collaboration with the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Cormorán Trophy combines competition and maritime heritage, featuring the Classics, Vintage, Spirit of Tradition, ORC, and Flying Fifteen categories. New this year is the OK Dinghy class, a one-design dinghy with a long tradition in Northern Europe.

The inclusion of classic yachts in the race, just over five years ago, has helped establish it as a fixture on the Mediterranean classic sailing calendar. The regatta is currently part of the Mare Nostrum Classics TrophySpanish Classic Sailing Cup—and has become a regular stop for some of the yachts competing on the Mediterranean regatta circuit.

Port de Pollença’s location also plays a strategic role along this route: situated between the Illes Balears Clàssics race in Palma, which took place last week, and the upcoming Copa del Rey Vintage Boat Race in Mahón, the Cormorán Trophy offers many boats a natural stopover on their way to Menorca.

The Classics category will feature 11 boats, while the Spirit of Tradition category will include three vessels. Among the boats that will stop in Pollença before continuing on to Mahón are the Gypsy, the Baltar, the Cami II, and the Clarionet. The classic fleet will also include a strong local contingent, consisting of the Rossina di Mare, Navara, Dione, Archangelo, and Vidi, as well as two regulars on the international circuit: the Argyll and the Rubicon.

The ORC class will have the largest field, with 26 boats registered and significant representation from the RCN Port de Pollença and other Balearic clubs, including the CN Ciutadella and the CN Colonia Sant Pere, organizations that have successfully launched an interclub league to encourage participation and competition among their fleets. The racing program will be rounded out by the Flying Fifteen one-designs and the debut of the OK Dinghy, a class that is very widespread in Northern Europe and popular among experienced sailors seeking speed and fun without excessive physical demands.

The courses will vary by class: Classic and Vintage boats will compete in coastal races during the two days of competition, while the other categories will face a windward-leeward course on Friday and coastal races on Saturday.

The event kicks off today, Thursday, August 20, with the confirmation of entries, participant registration, and the distribution of sailing instructions. On Friday, August 21, at 1:00 p.m., the attention signal for the first race will be given, and on Saturday, August 22, the competition will resume at 12:00 p.m. The awards ceremony, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, will bring to a close three days of racing that will transform the RCN Port de Pollença and the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia into the setting for one of the premier classic and cruising yacht gatherings of the Mallorcan summer.
