An imposing silhouette has been visible in the port of Alicante for several days now. It is the superyacht Kahalani, which has chosen Marina Alicante as a stopover on its Mediterranean itinerary. This choice is further proof that Alicante’s marina infrastructure is well-equipped to serve the international luxury yachting industry. And it’s the perfect opportunity to discuss one of those superyachts that have earned the status of maritime legends.
An anonymous owner with exquisite taste
Built in 2010 by the Dutch shipyard Feadship, the Kahalani (whose name, of Hawaiian origin, translates as “heavenly place”) combines timeless design, precision engineering, and a uniquely discreet sailing profile. Built from the ground up for a client (who has remained anonymous to date, although the vessel flies the Maltese flag) who had previously owned the 43-meter Sea Sedan, the goal was for the successor to maintain the same aesthetic while featuring larger proportions: more than 55 meters for the vessel in question.
The exterior design was handled by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, while the interior was designed by Rémi Tessier, whose artisanal finish earned him the award for Best Interior Design at the 2011 ShowBoats Design Awards. Rounded shapes on the heat shields, recessed and elegantly proportioned window moldings, continuous teak gangways on all decks, stainless steel accents, and bold dark gray lines running along the superstructure. All of this blends with classic Feadship features, such as the raised bow and pronounced overhang.
The yacht accommodates up to 11 guests in six cabins, served by a crew of 13 professionals with separate quarters. Its amenities include a spacious hot tub, several outdoor dining areas, and platforms with direct access to the sea for water sports. One of the most striking facts about the Kahalani is its history of use: in 16 years, it has barely left the waters of the Mediterranean, logging just over 4,000 hours of sailing.
