The Spain SailGP Team arrives in Canada to compete in the Halifax Grand Prix

Los Gallos are already in Canada to compete in the Halifax Grand Prix this Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21. The team, skippered by Diego Botín, is approaching this event with the goal of putting the technical problems of the recent past behind them and getting back on track in the second half of the Rolex SailGP Championship.

The Spanish team is looking to make up for the bad luck they suffered at the last New York Grand Prix, where a mechanical failure prevented them from competing in waters where they had won the previous year. That wasn’t the only setback of the season; in January, another breakdown in the run-up to the season-opening race in Perth also left them out of contention for points.

Despite these incidents, optimism prevails among the crew, as the Spain SailGP Team has reached the finals in every Grand Prix it has competed in this season, establishing itself as one of the strongest contenders in the championship.

Here are the standings

Consistent performances in the completed races keep Spain in fourth place in the overall standings with 32 points, just two points behind the U.S. team, led by Taylor Canfield.

In Halifax, Los Gallos will face off not only against the Americans, but also against Tom Slingsby’s formidable Australian team, Dylan Fletcher’s Great Britain, and a reinforced New Zealand squad, which is returning to competition following its devastating defeat in Auckland.

The action featuring these catamarans, which reach speeds of over 100 km/h, can be watched in Spain on Deportes on Movistar Plus+ and, in the rest of the world, on SailGP’s official YouTube channel.
