Lionel Messi has ordered a Sunreef Ultima 88, the catamaran from the Ultima line that the Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts builds at its facility in the United Arab Emirates. According to the German newspaper Bild, the price is estimated to be between 8 and 9 million euros, a figure that neither Sunreef nor the soccer player has confirmed.
The boat will join MIM Ocean, the charter fleet based in the Balearic Islands that Messi is developing in partnership with Med Cat Yachts, although the Argentine also plans to use it himself.
A design that’s halfway between a monohull and a multihull
Unveiled as a concept in 2023, the Ultima 88 is the largest model in the Ultima lineup, which consists of six vessels. The first hull was launched last April, and several more are under construction. According to the shipyard, it combines the agility of a monohull with the stability, spacious living areas, and shallow draft of a multihull. Its aerodynamic lines and optimized hull geometry improve performance and maneuverability, and its profile facilitates access to marinas and secluded anchorages.

Built of composite materials, it has a total length of 28.40 m and a beam of 9.30 m. The design and naval architecture are the work of Sunreef Yachts itself.

On board, the master suite spans the entire beam of the yacht and features a private sauna. The rest of the accommodations include four guest cabins, and the social areas are bright, with layouts designed to maximize space and comfort.

Sunreef’s hallmark feature is the Ocean Lounge. When at anchor, the wide folding sides and a spacious stern garage create a perimeter area right at the water’s edge, designed for both relaxation and water sports. This area features a dedicated garage for jet skis, as well as a wide stern platform, custom swim ladders, and storage for water toys. Above deck, a spacious flybridge and ample outdoor areas provide the perfect setting for socializing, relaxing, or exercising in the open air.

The Ultima 88 can be equipped with a high-performance propulsion system or a hybrid configuration that allows for quiet electric cruising. Options include ultralight, thin, and flexible solar panels, as well as a hydrofoil option. The technical specifications list a 6,000-liter fuel tank and batteries ranging from 22 kW to 75 kW.

Messi’s vessel will be powered by two 1,000-hp (about 1,014 CV) engines each, which, according to Sunreef, will offer “a perfect combination of speed and maneuverability.”
With this order, Messi joins a list of clients and brand ambassadors that includes Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz (who is also awaiting his Ultima 88), Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Mike Horn, and Robert Lewandowski. “It is a true pleasure to join the Sunreef family,” Messi said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to experiencing the Ultima 88 and enjoying it with my family.”
