Test Drive | Azimut Seadeck 9: Elegant and Bright

The Azimut Seadeck 9 is the new flagship of the Seadeck series from the Italian shipyard Azimut. It is a boat just over 25 meters in length that combines an optimized hull, a lightweight superstructure, and state-of-the-art Volvo Penta IPS propulsion to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while maintaining the level of comfort and performance expected of a luxury flybridge yacht.

Alberto Mancini’s design features architecture with large glass surfaces, seamless transitions between the interior and exterior, and a layout centered around the stern, which becomes the true heart of life on board.

The ship’s exterior is characterized by its vertical bow, the freeboards designed to visually lighten the volume, and an integrated superstructure that reduces the impression of height created by the three decks.

Inside, Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez have adopted a style of understated elegance, featuring natural woods and fabrics, soft colors, plenty of natural light, and furnishings that complement the feeling of open space. The most distinctive feature is the so-called Fun Island, a stern deck concept that reinterprets the traditional swim platform and transforms it into a large beach club divided into three terraces, with retractable sides, covering nearly 60 m² and surrounding a built-in hot tub, with a glass-enclosed stern.

Depending on the configuration, the interior features a layout with four guest cabins—one of which is a VIP cabin located at the bow—and the master cabin, which spans the entire width of the fuselage.

The Seadeck 9 is built using 40% carbon fiber, which significantly reduces the total weight, lowers the center of gravity, and decreases fuel consumption. The unit we tested was equipped with three Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines, but there is the option—which we’ll look at shortly—to install a hybrid propulsion system to further reduce emissions.
