The King of Ibiza isn’t content with just revolutionizing the nightlife scene. What more could someone who has it all possibly want? The answer is always the same: more. Yann Pissenem, the nightclub magnate behind Ushuaïa, Hï, and [UNVRS], is now seeking a new revolution: the launch of a creative agency that transcends the boundaries of nightlife and the dance floor. The Ideation Bureau was born as his own creative laboratory, designed to bring his expertise to brands in the fashion, hospitality, sports, and culture sectors. It’s a project destined to turn the world of advertising and marketing campaigns upside down.
The French entrepreneur is embarking on this venture alongside a trusted partner. Sam “Sparrow” Mooney is the director of creative strategy at The Night League, a company focused on entertainment and nightlife that is responsible for coordinating marketing, branding, and digital positioning initiatives for clubs and nightclubs such as those mentioned above. This includes any activities comparable to those undertaken by a 360-degree, fully cross-functional creative agency: managing and administering the clubs themselves, booking the world’s top DJs, organizing audiovisual shows and immersive experiences… Pissenem and Mooney are going to leverage all that experience, that vast array of resources, and their deep knowledge of the industry to revitalize experiences in other business sectors. For the Manager of the Universe (as a plaque in his office at [UNVRS] reads), the sky has long since ceased to be the limit.
The success of The Night League and its flagship nightclubs are The Ideation Bureau’s credentials. The creators of this venture have more than enough track record to guarantee success for their future clients, whether in the public or private sector. One example is the highly acclaimed launch campaign for [UNVRS] in 2024: a UFO sighting off Es Vedrà that went viral despite the whiff of fakery it gave off. Oscar-winning actor Will Smith capped off the campaign by revealing that the strange lights in the Ibiza sky were not the result of a visit by alien flying saucers, but rather the opening of the world’s first “hyperclub,” as its creators dubbed it. It was the first nightlife club campaign to be nominated for a Webby Award, an accolade that recognizes excellence on the internet. Before the Prince of Bel-Air made his entrance, the video had already racked up more than 110 million views—and that was at a time when footage of UFO sightings was proliferating like crazy.
Obviously, there are many more notches on the revolver. Hï Ibiza became the first venue to be named the world’s number-one club for four consecutive seasons, and [UNVRS] itself reached the top spot in its first year. Growing up in a world where competition is fierce has been yet another source of motivation for Pissenem, who was obsessed with surpassing Pachá’s global brand presence and its ubiquitous, deified cherry logo.
The World of Ideas
As they explain on their Instagram profile, “Beyond creating conventional marketing campaigns, @theideationbureau seeks to develop ideas and experiences that connect with the audience far beyond a screen.” This marks a turning point for Pissenem and Mooney, who aim to continue building on their status as legends in the nightlife creativity sector. Their humble starting point in this new mission.
“We’ve spent years building brands in environments where ideas have to earn their place in the real world,” Pissenem himself says in a press release introducing his new venture to the world. “The Ideation Bureau aims to bring the same discipline and ambition to every project we undertake.” In the same press release, Mooney adds that “throughout our careers, we’ve created work that brought millions of people together to experience something in the real world. The Ideation Bureau is our opportunity to take that same mindset beyond music and entertainment.” He adds: “I’ve always believed that the best creativity doesn’t end on a screen.”
The Ideation Bureau follows in the conceptual footsteps of other major brands that have managed to go a step further by expanding their creative divisions into other areas and offering their services to other companies. This is the case with Premier League clubs such as Manchester City and Southampton FC, which have their own production and branding companies for brands as diverse as Puma and Etihad Airways. Cupra, the Spanish automaker, has ventured into the world of fashion and accessories with Cupra Design House and into the world of cologne with its own official fragrance, Cupra Scent. Disney is doing something similar by unifying all its creative divisions and strategies under the Main Street umbrella.
All of them are prime examples of companies that have expanded their creative potential beyond the boundaries imposed by the subconscious of their own industry. It is in the very essence of innovation to seek, sooner or later, to transcend the limits of the playing field in which it operates. And the kings of Ibiza’s nightlife know a thing or two about this.
