The Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra will close the Bellver Festival 2026 on Thursday, July 16, with a concert celebrating the richness of the British repertoire. The concert, scheduled for 9:30 PM, will conclude the fourth edition of the series with a program entirely dedicated to three of the great names of British music: Edward Elgar, Benjamin Britten, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
According to the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the concert will be conducted by British maestro Michael Francis, one of the most recognized conductors of his generation, who will return to lead the Balearic orchestra to close the festival; over four evenings, has transformed Bellver Castle into one of the main musical stages of the Mallorcan summer. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through the website of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands.
The evening will open with Edward Elgar’s Serenade in E minor for Strings, Op. 20, one of the English composer’s most celebrated works for its melodic refinement and intimate atmosphere. Next, the audience will enjoy Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony, Op. 4, a score based on melodies the composer himself wrote during his childhood, which stands out for its vitality, its contrasts, and a rhythmic energy that has made it one of the most popular pieces in his catalog.
After the intermission, the highlight of the evening will be the performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Symphony No. 5. Considered one of the pinnacles of 20th-century British symphonic music, this work, with its profound lyricism and great expressive power, will conclude both the concert and this year’s Bellver Festival.
With this program, Michael Francis and the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra will bring to a close a festival that, once again, has brought together symphonic music and historical heritage at the iconic Bellver Castle, consolidating an event that has become one of the highlights of summer culture in Mallorca.
