After years of construction and renovations, and an investment of millions, the Parador of Ibiza presented its facilities to residents, the media, and prominent figures from the island at an event attended by the president of Paradores, Raquel Sánchez, the hotel’s director, Pau Narbona, and the singer María Coma. This was the Parador’s second official opening, following the first in March, which was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the main local authorities.

On this occasion, the experience was called ‘Path to the Essence’ and offered all participants a guided tour to explore the ‘artistic path’ that extends through several rooms of the castle and the Powder Magazine, where contemporary art works are exhibited, selected from the 10,000 works owned by the Paradores group, from various artists specializing in modern painting and photography, such as an oil by Joan Miró, an original ‘Venus’ by Leo Cailard, and a canvas by Leo Benítez, an oil by Philip II, a photograph of eight ice creams by Joan Miguel Quiñones, the ‘Triangular Lake’ by Miler Lagos and an oil painting by Diego Benítez, among other notable works of art related to the Mediterranean.

The president of the national network of Paradores, Raquel Sánchez, gave a speech in the castle’s courtyard in which she highlighted the idea of “helping visitors discover the island’s most authentic experience through ‘Camino a la esencia’ – a journey into the island’s history, tranquility and the roots of the island, through an artistic project designed to position the Parador as a new benchmark in the cultural, social, and institutional spheres, transforming the historic site into a living gallery where architecture, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and photography engage in a dialogue with one another.” Sánchez concluded by expressing his gratitude for “the opportunity to celebrate the birth of a new landmark hotel on the island and to share a night to remember.” and the interest shown by the approximately one hundred guests who enjoyed a fascinating evening centered on the art and history of a castle that has long been an emblem of the old town of Dalt Vila, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cocktail party and performance by María Coma

The luxury cocktail party, held at dusk, took place in a cultural, relaxed, elegant, and cosmopolitan atmosphere, with the attendance of representatives from the worlds of fashion, food and beverage, and hospitality, as well as artists and well-known personalities from Ibiza, including actress Silvia Leblanc, former motorcycle racer and DJ Fonsi Nieto, fashion designers Charo Ruiz and Vintage Ibiza, painters Marta Torres and Antonio Villanueva, public relations specialists Carlos Martorell and Jorge Inchausti, photographer Jordi Gómez, Esteban Mercer, Carlos Serante, and Princess Loretta Zu Sayn Wittgenstein. They all tasted cava and wines from Rueda and Ribera del Duero, Iberian cured meats and sausages, foie gras bonbons, octopus cake, Ibizan ‘cocaréis’ cheeses, sobrasada blinis, and the quintessential Ibizan dessert, ‘greixonera‘.

The event concluded with a performance by singer María Coma on the castle’s parade ground, where she played several traditional songs from Menorca and Mallorca on the piano.
