This “hive”—as the company internally refers to its online service warehouses—will be located at 2 Cal Jutge Street and will involve an investment of 19.5 million euros.
According to a statement released by Mercadona, more than 25 suppliers will participate in the warehouse’s construction, providing employment for 150 people during the construction phase. The facility is scheduled to become operational in 2027.
The warehouse, a structure spanning approximately 14,300 square meters, will be built on a plot of land covering nearly 13,300 square meters.
Similarly, the team working at the Palma “hive” will consist of more than 200 people, including delivery drivers and order pickers.
The company already offers online shopping in Mallorca through its network of stores, where orders are prepared for delivery in Palma, Calvià, Santanyí, Inca, Llucmajor, Son Servera, and Santa Margalida, among other areas. The new warehouse will strengthen and optimize this service.
Mercadona has emphasized that the new online shopping initiative aims to improve the customer experience by launching the new shopping website and mobile app, in addition to implementing significant organizational and process changes that optimize how orders are prepared and delivered.
All of this increases productivity and efficiency, ensuring better service for customers, noted the supermarket chain, which uses ECO-labeled vans with diesel engines converted to LPG for delivery that can carry up to 15 orders.
These vehicles have been exclusively designed with three temperature zones adapted to each type of product: ambient, refrigerated, and frozen.
Additionally, they incorporate a mechanized unloading system that minimizes cargo handling, thereby reducing strain on workers and shortening unloading time.
