With its uniform black coat, arched neck, and elegant, noble bearing, the Purebred Menorcan Horse—one of the island’s greatest symbols—is taking a leap toward international recognition thanks to Menorca Horse Week. This event, which will hold its inaugural edition from May 14 to 17, will transform Menorca into the international epicenter of the equestrian world.

During the event, the Menorcan horse will be one of the main highlights of an occasion that will bring together professionals, breeders, riders, and enthusiasts from the industry. Menorca Horse Week will thus place the island in the spotlight of the global equestrian scene, with a special focus on this proud and slender native breed.

The event was created with the aim of establishing Menorca—a designated Biosphere Reserve—as an international equestrian hub, highlighting both the tradition and excellence of the Menorcan horse and promoting it on the global stage. The event seeks to reinforce a model that unites tradition, sport, and the economy around the world of horses, with a clear aim of becoming a new driving force for revitalizing the island’s business and tourism sectors.

A showcase of purebreds

Menorca Horse Week was launched following more than 35 years of conformation shows for the Purebred Menorcan Horse, representing a natural evolution of the industry. The event aims to become a major showcase for the Purebred Menorcan Horse, a native breed and symbol of the island, recognized for its black coat, elegance, and characteristic “bot,” thereby projecting Menorcan equestrian tradition onto a broader international stage.

Industry professionals in the arena

The program will feature prominent figures from the industry, such as Olympic jockey Juan Matute, as well as international experts and Argentine horse trainer Fabrizio Bonnet, who will give a demonstration of free-range training with Menorcan horses, in keeping with the event’s commitment to animal welfare.

Equestrian journalist Marta González, named ambassador for this inaugural edition, will also participate in Menorca Horse Week, where she will help reinforce the event’s message about the cultural value of horses. In this regard, she emphasized that “Menorca is a leading equestrian destination with a rich cultural heritage, committed to respecting horses and supporting the development of its rural communities.” González is also Director of Communications and Deputy to the President of the World Equestrian Tourism Organization, where she promotes a model of tourism based on sustainability, animal welfare, and support for rural economies—in line with the philosophy of Menorca Horse Week.
