A Showcase of Talent: The Rafa Nadal Open Kicks Off

The Mallorcan summer will once again have a major red event on the sports calendar. The fast courts of the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor will host the eighth edition of the Rafa Nadal Open by Movistar from August 31 to September 6. This ATP Challenger Tour event, since its creation in 2018, has established itself as one of the leading competitions on the circuit.

The appeal of the tournament goes beyond the big names competing for the title each year. Over its seven previous editions, the Rafa Nadal Open has also served as a platform for players looking to take the next step in their professional careers. Its courts have hosted players such as Carlos Alcaraz, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Fernando Verdasco, and Pablo Andújar, as well as numerous other players who have since established themselves among the world’s elite.

For Rafa Nadal, the event’s main driving force, the tournament represents an opportunity to bring professional tennis to the island and, at the same time, offer the players a highly demanding environment. “The Rafa Nadal Open is a very special week for all of us. The 2025 tournament held special significance for the Academy: Daniel Rincón was crowned champion, becoming the first player trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy to win the title in Manacor in front of his home crowd.

The tournament’s winners’ list also offers a snapshot of its evolution and its ability to attract international talent: Bernard Tomic won in 2018; Emil Ruusuvuori in 2019; Lukas Lacko in 2021; Luca Nardi in 2022; Hamad Medjedovic in 2023; Duje Ajduković in 2024; and Daniel Rincón in 2025. This list reflects one of the tournament’s defining characteristics: bringing together top players from the ATP Challenger Tour with young players aspiring to become the next stars of the circuit.

Once again, thousands of fans will gather in the stands of the Rafa Nadal Academy to watch the competition live and enjoy the presence of some of the biggest names in professional tennis and the most promising young talents on the international scene. With thousands of spectators at each edition, the Rafa Nadal Open by Movistar has also become one of the main sporting and social events of the summer in Mallorca.
