The New York-based contemporary graffiti artist, urban artist, DJ, illustrator, and inventor Alec Monopoly unveiled a monumental, bold, and colorful 450-kilogram sculpture at the Ibiza Gallery during an entertaining event attended by about a hundred art lovers, collectors, DJs, other artists, and prominent island personalities.
The striking sculpture pays homage to music, fashion, urban art, and nightlife, symbolized by a huge DJ booth on a platform. Alec demonstrated his mastery as a showman and entertained the audience in an improvised and unexpected way, while putting the finishing touches on the piece and demonstrating his creative process live with spray paint and markers, adding a more urban touch to a work he has spent a year on and which is valued at around $500,000. Monopoly, one of the most recognizable names in international street art, invited the public to be part of the experience with this large-scale, color-finished piece that reinterpreted the artist’s most recognizable imagery through a figure in front of a DJ booth. A tribute that evokes his close connection to Ibiza and the music culture that has inspired much of his career.
Monopoly has forged a career in which graffiti, pop art, and luxury iconography maintain a constant dialogue. Hidden for years behind masks and fictional characters, he has turned the Monopoly Man into a contemporary icon through which he reflects on money, success, fame, and excess, always using an immediate, ironic, and instantly recognizable visual language.
In this work, the character is situated behind a DJ booth, incorporating one of the most iconic symbols of Ibiza and the artist’s own journey. The piece, then, brings together two themes that have been central to Alec’s work for years: his critical perspective on celebrity culture and his close ties to the island’s music scene, where he has created murals, organized exhibitions, and DJed at some of its most renowned clubs. Over the years, Alec has established himself as a regular presence in Ibiza’s electronic music scene, sharing the booth with international DJs and performing at iconic venues like Ushuaïa Ibiza and Hï Ibiza. His career behind the decks makes the sculpture not only a tribute to Ibiza’s DJ culture but also a representation of his own creative evolution, which spans the worlds of art and music.

After the presentation, the artistic celebrations continued with a private party on the terrace of the restaurant StreetXO, run by chef David Muñoz, one of the most attractive spaces at Ibiza Gallery and The Site Ibiza. Alec took the decks on the venue’s terrace to deliver an exclusive DJ set; he also painted live throughout the night, in addition to signing and customizing several of his works from the MoneyMon series.
The evening brought together some of the most well-known faces of the island’s creative and cultural scene, such as international DJ Dimitri Vegas of Tomorrowland and singer Sasha. A gastronomic celebration that reflected the push to promote fashion, music, culture, and gastronomy as part of the global luxury offering of this shopping mall in Playa d’en Bossa, which in just one year has become the epicenter of leisure, entertainment, and contemporary art.
