The study reflects a growing trend toward spontaneous and last-minute trips. Thirty-three percent of Spanish users buy their ferry tickets in the week before departure, while almost one in four (23 percent) book on the day of the trip or one to two days in advance.
By age group, booking in advance remains the most common behavior across all generations, although young people between 20 and 29 are the most spontaneous travelers: almost one in ten bookings from this age group is made just two days before departure.
The Mediterranean (Spain, Italy, Greece, and Croatia) accounts for the majority of bookings. While the Balearic Islands and the Cyclades (Greece) are popular options overall, the report identifies differences by age group.
Itineraries for the Croatian islands are the most requested by younger travelers, while destinations such as the Canary Islands, Sardinia (Italy), and the Ionian Islands (Greece) are more popular among older travelers.
