Puerto Portals celebrates its 40th anniversary with a glamorous party full of celebrities

The marina brings together prominent figures from the business, cultural, and social spheres and promises to remain a leading destination in the Mediterranean for another four decades

Few tourist facilities have managed to transcend their original purpose to become a brand asset with international reach. Puerto Portals is one of them. The Mallorcan marina celebrated its 40th anniversary this Sunday with an official and business event that brought together representatives from the Balearic Islands Government and the Calvià City Council, business leaders, and prominent figures from the worlds of sailing, culture, sports, and fashion, as well as notable personalities from the national scene, at an event that served both to celebrate its legacy and to present the vision that will shape its next phase.

Among the officials in attendance were Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the regional minister of Business, Self-Employed Workers, and Energy, and Juan Antonio Amengual, the mayor of Calvià, accompanied by a broad representation of the Balearic Islands’ business and social communities. The event also brought together Victoria de Marichalar, Mar Flores, Joaquín Prat, Boris Izaguirre, Fiona Ferrer, Olympic champion Marcus Cooper, Olympic champion Lidia Valentín, and former international handball players Eli Pinedo and Lucía Micó, among other representatives from the worlds of business, fashion, sports, and social life. Mario Conde and his partner, María José de Castellví, were also in attendance.

However, the evening was not solely about celebrating an anniversary. The anniversary highlighted the model promoted four decades ago by its founder, Dr. Klaus Graf, whose vision redefined the concept of a marina by transforming it into a space capable of integrating boating, dining, shopping, leisure, and experiences within a single ecosystem. An approach that is now commonplace in major international marinas, but which in 1986 represented a profoundly innovative concept.

Presentations

The official ceremony featured remarks by Puerto Portals CEO Corinna Graf, the mayor of Calvià, and Regional Minister Sáenz de San Pedro. During her speech, Graf highlighted the business and human legacy that gave rise to the project and recalled the philosophy that inspired her parents from the very beginning. “My parents understood that a port should not be merely a nautical infrastructure. Behind every boat there are people, and those people have needs.”

The CEO argued that the true value built over these four decades lies not only in the international prestige achieved or the quality of its facilities, but also in the trust fostered among customers, companies, and partners. “The main milestone of these 40 years is the recognition from our clients and the prestige that Puerto Portals has achieved both within and outside the Balearic Islands.”

Far from viewing the anniversary as the end of an era, Graf used the occasion to outline the marina’s future strategy, summarized in a statement that captures the balance between tradition and innovation. “Our goal for the next 40 years is to continue offering what we’ve always offered, but like never before.” This phrase defines the commitment to preserving the identity that has made Puerto Portals a benchmark in the Mediterranean, while accelerating its transformation to meet the new challenges of premium tourism, sustainability, and innovation.

This evolution is already reflected in Blue Marina, the strategy through which Puerto Portals is promoting a new generation of projects focused on energy efficiency, biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and technological innovation. This plan is designed to strengthen the marina’s competitiveness and consolidate a growth model aligned with the sector’s new demands.

The Evolution of a Universal Marina

Since its opening in 1986, Puerto Portals has evolved into one of Europe’s most prestigious marinas and one of the Mediterranean’s greatest icons. For four decades, it has been the setting for business, institutional, and social gatherings, as well as a go-to destination for the Spanish Royal Family, business leaders, athletes, artists, and national and international figures.

Following the speeches, attendees enjoyed a cocktail prepared by the restaurants of Puerto Portals. The celebration continued with a performance by the band The Tutsies and a DJ set that brought to a close a night that, beyond its commemorative nature, symbolized the beginning of a new era for a brand that aspires to continue leading the evolution of Mediterranean marinas for decades to come.
