The number of visitors to the Balearic Islands reached a new record in April, with 1.6 million people

It is slightly higher than the same period last year, with the 30th marking a record high for this month.

The Human Pressure Index (IPH) in the Balearic Islands has reached a new record, with 1.64 million people in the archipelago in April – 0.13 percent more than in April 2025 and an increase of 2,080 people, according to data from the Balearic Statistical Institute (Ibestat).

According to data from Ibestat, the highest population density for April 2026 was recorded on the 30th. The lowest population density, meanwhile, was 1.54 million people across the archipelago, an increase of 9.4 percent. The April average was 1.58 million people, representing an increase of 0.96%, or 14,961 people.

By island, the day with the highest number of visitors in Mallorca was April 30, with 1.25 million. In Menorca, the busiest day was also the 30th, with 134,595 people; in Ibiza, it was April 26, with 239,150 people; and in Formentera, again the 30th, with 20,163 people.

Overnight stays in vacation apartments

This Wednesday also saw the release of figures for overnight stays in vacation apartments in May, a sector in which the Balearic Islands also show an upward trend, which helps explain the gradual increase in the number of visitors.

Consequently, vacation apartments on the islands recorded a total of 972,870 overnight stays in May, 3.43 percent more than in the same month last year, according to figures published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

As for the number of visitors, 223,728 people chose this type of accommodation in the Balearic Islands during the fifth month of the year, 5.39 percent fewer than last year. Of the total travelers who chose vacation apartments in the Balearic Islands in May, 183,001 were foreigners and 40,727 were Spanish residents, with an average stay of 4.35 days.

Statistics estimate that in May there were 19,226 vacation apartments open on the islands, with a capacity of 59,304 beds. The occupancy rate was 69.39% per vacation apartment. The number of workers was 5,700.

Meanwhile, Rural tourism accommodation in the Balearic Islands hosted 65,538 travelers during the fifth month of the year, of whom 56,655 were foreign visitors and 8,883 were Spanish, with a total of 198,054 overnight stays, with an average stay of 3.02 days. The survey estimates a total of 11,969 beds in 566 establishments, with an average occupancy rate of 62.5% per room and 3,945 people employed.
