The Reina Sofía National Art Museum has added works by several artists with ties to Mallorca to its permanent collection as part of the exhibition “Contemporary Art 1975–Present.”

According to a statement released by the Consell de Mallorca, the featured artists include Miquel Barceló, Joan Miró, Toni Catany, Ana Laura Aláez, and Susy Gómez, whose works are now part of the museum’s curatorial narrative.

In this context, the Mallorcan artist Susy Gómez has participated in the presentation of her work 'Montaña Caballo Bernat', which is included in the museum’s new exhibition itinerary alongside other pieces by the artist.

As part of this same project, artist Ana Laura Aláez (Bilbao, 1964, resident of Mallorca) presents 13 pieces that reinforce a sculptural and performative language that questions identities, bodies, and spaces.

The museum features a broad and significant collection of works by artists connected to Mallorca, notably Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, 1957), with 35 paintings and sculptures including 'Animal del pintor', 'Trucha', 'Endemismos', and 'Two Poles', among others.

Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893–Palma, 1983) is also featured with the work 'Tela quemada 4,' part of his 1970s series, marked by experimentation with materials and painterly gesture.

Finally, Toni Catany (Llucmajor, 1942–2013) is featured with four photographs included in the exhibition tour “Four Directions: Contemporary Spanish Photography, 1970–1990.”

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, highlighted the significance of the presence of works linked to Mallorca in the museum and, in particular, the piece by Gómez, which he described as “a symbol deeply rooted in the landscape and identity of the island.”
