Marina Port Andratx has established a marine wildlife rescue center in collaboration with the Palma Aquarium Foundation, an initiative aimed at strengthening the conservation of the marine ecosystem in the port area and improving the ability to respond to potential emergencies involving protected Mediterranean species.
The establishment of this new rescue station will enable a rapid and coordinated response to reports of injured sea turtles or marine wildlife in distress. The initiative includes the provision of a specialized rescue box that will facilitate the collection of animals and their subsequent transport to the recovery center managed by the specialized team at the Palma Aquarium Foundation.
This initiative is part of the sustainability and environmental protection strategies that Marina Port Andratx is implementing in Port d’Andratx, integrating marine conservation into its daily operations and port management model.
The Mediterranean, an environment rich in biodiversity and particularly vulnerable
The Balearic coastline is home to one of the highest concentrations of marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean. Among the most vulnerable species is the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), whose conservation depends largely on rapid response in coastal and port areas, as well as on collaboration between scientific institutions, government agencies, and marine operators.
In this context, marinas are playing an increasingly important role as strategic locations for the early detection and rescue of vulnerable marine wildlife, especially during the months of peak maritime activity.

A network of marinas committed to sustainability
With this addition, Marina Port Andratx joins the network of facilities committed to protecting marine wildlife in the Balearic Islands. The initiative is part of an established partnership between the Palma Aquarium Foundation and various marinas in the group, such as Marina Port de Mallorca and Marina Ibiza, which for years have been promoting initiatives focused on environmental awareness, the conservation of the Mediterranean, and the protection of marine species.
The marina emphasizes that these types of projects not only improve the response to marine wildlife emergencies but also promote environmental awareness among staff, customers, and visitors.
Sustainability Integrated into Port Management
The addition of the rescue station reinforces Marina Port Andratx’s sustainability strategy and its commitment to more responsible boating that respects the natural environment.
Through initiatives like these, port facilities are moving toward management models in which boating activities and environmental conservation coexist in a coordinated manner, contributing to the protection of the Balearic marine ecosystem and the conservation of iconic Mediterranean species.
