Rafa Domínguez and Sebastián Candela are an unusual pair of nature photographers from the Ses Salines Natural Park and its remarkable biological reserve, who have captured their work in an interesting book titled “A Walk through Ses Salines,” which includes snapshots of birds, reptiles, and other animals that inhabit this wonderful environment, and which they are currently exhibiting at Club Diario de Ibiza.
Rafa Domínguez has had a long career as a professional photographer for the Diario de Ibiza and other media outlets; as the son of a photographer and the owner of one of the island’s most iconic photo shops, he learned the trade from a young age and knows it inside and out. Sebastián Candela is a sports journalist: he has been the sports editor at Diario de Ibiza for decades. He took up photography as a hobby after retiring and has since become an expert at capturing everything that moves on land, at sea, and in the air in Ses Salines.
Both spend endless hours together or separately, capturing original, unique, spectacular, captivating, incredibly colorful, and sometimes unimaginable images of animal life in that environment. They are now exhibiting a collection of 24 medium-format photographs at Club Diario de Ibiza, which together represent their vision of a world almost unknown to the human eye, but which becomes magical when the powerful lens of a professional camera captures it in a single moment of its life, its flight, the way it feeds or raises its young, or the majesty of its color and life.

The selection of the 24 photographs on display in this exhibition was a complicated process, as it brings together recent images with others published in the book and that have been exhibited on other occasions since 2024. The selection was made jointly, “seeking an aesthetic vision of the most unusual species, their movements, and their way of life: from the flight of a gull to that of an eagle, to the majestic dance of a flock of flamingos, the feeding time of lizards, or the circling flight of the Indian egret.”
Candela and Domínguez are not looking to impress, or to preach, or to show anything more than the fascinating reality that a photograph of an object can convey: a reality that everyone can appreciate, as long as they pay the necessary attention and dedicate the same time to it that the photographers dedicate to waiting for that magical moment to press the shutter. This very worthwhile exhibition is open all month at Club Diario de Ibiza.
