On Tuesday, CaixaFòrum Palma hosted the opening of 'Càntic. El profund és l'aire,' the new exhibition by Mallorcan artist Ñaco Fabré, which will be open until January 24, 2027.
The exhibition champions contemplation as an act of resistance in a time when speed and noise dominate everything, and encourages reflection on the essential aspects of existence, such as time, memory, and the power of art to generate meaning, as the "la Caixa" Foundation explains in a press release.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art of Palma and, in the face of contemporary noise and sensory overload, advocates for the need for a contemplative gaze. In this exhibition, lines, planes of color, shadows, and the spaces between two shapes provide a way to address the essential aspects of existence:
This exhibition, the second jointly organized by the foundation and the museum, comprises a total of nine artworks. The exhibition, which will open to coincide with Palma's Art Night and will be open from September 15, 2026, to January 24, 2027, is inspired by a verse from the poem "Más allá," included in Jorge Guillén's book 'Cántico,' a masterpiece of 20th-century Spanish poetry.
Ñaco Fabré's work captures this tension and brings it to the exhibition space of CaixaFòrum Palma. In his paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, geometry does not function as a closed system, but as a means to explore that which defies definition: organizing elements without confining them, containing forms without fixing them, and opening up perception.
The exhibition's curator, Raquel Victoria Rodríguez López, summarized that Ñaco Fabré's work is based on a sustained focus on light, space, form, and perception. "The landscape does not appear as a recognizable image, but as a condition of the gaze. It resides in the breath of the voids, in the economy of gesture, in the horizon line, and in what remains when the image withdraws," she remarked.
