Engine Test | Capelli Alma 27, with a Seafaring Spirit

The Capelli Alma 27 is a new-generation Mediterranean walkaround that reinterprets the day cruiser concept with a strong emphasis on ergonomics and onboard comfort.
With an overall length of approximately 8.7 meters and a beam of nearly 2.5 meters, it falls into the segment of certified fiberglass open boats under eight meters in waterline length, designed for day trips and weekend getaways rather than extended cruises.

The hull design features a traditional shape optimized to provide stability, smooth wave-cutting performance, and power output of up to 350 hp in a single-outboard configuration or a twin-engine setup of 2 x 200 hp, depending on the market. In Spain, it is an exclusive Suzuki brand, and Movilmotors handles imports.

Aesthetically, the square bow stands out, significantly expanding deck space and giving the boat a modern look, with a high freeboard that ensures a sense of safety and protection in the cockpit, without sacrificing headroom in the forward cabin, which can accommodate two people overnight. The living area centers around a well-designed cockpit, featuring a C-shaped sofa surrounding a convertible table that can be transformed into a spacious sun deck, backrests that fold toward the stern, and a galley/bar unit immediately behind the helm.

The fiberglass T-top, supported by sturdy metal struts, is a key design element: in addition to reinforcing the model’s sporty look, it provides a generous shaded area that can be extended toward the bow and stern using removable awnings, in line with current trends. The side walkways are deep and continuous, facilitating safe access to the bow area, where the square geometry increases the available space for sunbathing and maneuvering, while the integrated swim platforms at the stern complete a deck layout designed for intensive use while at anchor and for outdoor living.

It’s worth noting that if you want to install a twin-engine setup, the swim platforms are slightly narrower. Hidden beneath the deck is a simple yet functional cabin, with two berths and various possible bathroom configurations, ranging from a built-in toilet under the sofa to a separate, nearly full-height compartment.

All of this positions the Alma 27 as a versatile weekender, capable of alternating day trips with the occasional night aboard without losing its character as an open boat. In terms of construction, the shipyard uses infusion techniques and sandwich and solid structures, bonded to the hull with modern adhesives, to achieve rigidity, weight control, and a finish befitting an Italian product that competes in terms of image and build quality within the premium outboard motor segment.

In short, the Capelli Alma 27 is a solid choice for sailors who primarily cruise in temperate climates, appreciate Italian design, and want a boat that’s easy to handle, safe for the family, and versatile enough to combine fast coastal cruising, anchoring in coves, the occasional hassle-free overnight getaway, and—why not?—sport fishing.
