Oceania Cruises has announced that the Oceania ‘Aurelia’ will set sail in late 2027. This new launch marks a complete reinvention of the beloved ship formerly known as the Oceania ‘Nautica,’ one of the line’s four small R-class vessels (along with the ‘Regatta,’ ‘Insignia,’ and ‘Sirena’).
The ship, which has been part of the Oceania fleet since 2005, will be completely redesigned and refurbished to appeal to travelers interested in long, immersive, and global itineraries aboard a smaller ship with an intimate, home-away-from-home atmosphere.
“It has been specifically designed for guests seeking more space, more suites, and a higher level of personalized service, especially on extended stays,” said Jason Montague in a press release announcing the launch.
“The Oceania ‘Aurelia’ will be a smaller ship with the feel of a private club—one that truly feels like a home at sea—offering travelers a deeper connection to the ports they visit,” he added.
Although the 2026 itineraries have not yet been announced, the company has announced that the Oceania ‘Aurelia’ will embark on two 180-day Around the World cruises in 2028 and 2029, exploring destinations on six continents.

A home away from home
The profile of travelers who could afford long cruises used to consist almost entirely of retirees. However, these days, such trips are also attracting a growing number of people who work remotely.
The Oceania ‘Aurelia’ is expected to have a capacity of fewer than 500 passengers and a crew of 400 officers and crew members, a ratio that ensures attentive and highly personalized service. Previously, the ship accommodated 670 passengers and was considered the ideal size: small enough to access exclusive ports, yet large enough to offer elegant public spaces and amenities.
The reduced number of passengers will also make it easier for guests to connect with one another and share experiences with like-minded travelers.
The 238 guest accommodations will include 179 spacious suites with butler service, ranging in size from approximately 30 to 93 square meters. The cabins will be decorated in a residential style, with some featuring generous living and dining areas.
The suite collection will include Owner’s, Vista, and Penthouse suites, as well as two new categories: Oceania and Horizon.
A culinary program worthy of praise
For many travelers, the quality of the food is a key factor when choosing a cruise, and it becomes even more important on longer voyages.
Oceania Cruises has earned a solid reputation as “the cruise line for food lovers.” Among its popular dining venues on board are The Grand Dining Room, Polo Grill, Toscana, Terrace Cafe, Waves Grill, the Pizzeria, and Baristas, its authentic Italian coffee bar.
The new ship will also feature a bakery—serving freshly baked pastries and European specialties—and a creperie, offering crepes, waffles, and ice cream.
The company is also known for its floating culinary kitchens and destination-focused culinary enrichment programs, both created by Chef Kathryn Kelly. The new ship will also feature a Chef’s Studio and a Founders Bar offering mixology experiences.
Coming soon: the launch of the Oceania ‘Aurelia’
The dates for when bookings will open for the Oceania Aurelia have not yet been announced. However, for those who don’t want to wait, this isn’t the only option Oceania Cruises offers for long-haul itineraries.
The luxury, adults-only cruise line also offers Grand Voyages and other Around the World cruises with overnight stops, allowing guests to immerse themselves more deeply in the destinations, their culture, and their people.
