Five people were arrested Thursday in Cádiz following a maritime chase targeting drug traffickers that ended with a collision involving a Civil Guard patrol boat, leaving several officers with minor injuries.
The events took place after members of the Cádiz Provincial Maritime Service (SMP) launched an anti-drug trafficking operation at around 1:30 p.m. near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. The operation prevented an exchange of gasoline canisters between two high-speed boats.
Upon detecting the arrival of the Civil Guard patrol boat Río Guadalmedina, one of the vessels fled at high speed. During the chase, the drug-smuggling boat rammed the patrol boat, causing “visible damage” to it.
Despite the impact and the minor injuries sustained by several officers, Civil Guard personnel continued the pursuit until they intercepted the boat and arrested its five occupants.
The operation prevented the transfer of fuel between the two vessels, a maneuver linked to the logistics of drug trafficking operations along the Cadiz coastline.
