Disclosure: I have a soft spot for Delta Marine, for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the shipyard is one of the few major yacht builders based in my home country: the United States. Second, Delta Marine is a family-owned shipyard that has been building commercial vessels and luxury yachts for nearly 60 years. And best of all: now that they’ve just launched Zembra, a new 152-foot custom-built explorer yacht designed to go anywhere, I’m pleased to remind prospective yacht owners that there’s no need to go to Europe or other parts of the world to find a shipyard capable of building large, high-quality custom yachts. Delta Marine is in Seattle, Washington.
And the Zembra’s hull, painted in Arizona bronze, its meticulous woodwork, and its remarkable expedition capabilities are just a few examples of Delta Marine’s dedication to quality craftsmanship. According to early renderings, the large windows, clean angular lines, and functional profile reflect the owners’ vision: a yacht equally suited for cruising and exploration.
“Zembra isn’t just a yacht,” says the owner. “It’s the way we’ll share with our grandchildren and dear friends the many incredible places we’ve explored—places that are only accessible by yacht. Reliving those places through their eyes—and exploring many new ones—is the purpose of Zembra.”
Developed in close collaboration between Delta Marine and the owners, Zembra is equipped to offer experiences on the water, underwater, and beyond. A dedicated helicopter pad, a two-seat ICON A5 amphibious aircraft, a FunAir water slide, two jet skis, and a three-seat U-Boat Worx submersible expand the yacht’s capabilities. A Williams Jet tender and a full inventory of water toys are stored indoors to preserve the yacht’s clean lines.
Interiors designed by Roger Thomas
The interiors were designed by award-winning interior designer Roger Thomas, who drew on his experience designing high-end hospitality spaces to create an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere throughout the yacht. Stainless steel accents, custom oak finishes, and a bold patterned rug add a touch of color to the transitional-style interior.
The accommodations include five staterooms: a full-beam master suite on the main deck and four spacious guest staterooms below, one of which is wheelchair accessible. A fifth stateroom serves as a convertible fitness area, featuring two Pullman berths. The thoughtfully designed layout promotes well-being and comfort during long voyages. An elevator connects all decks. The sun deck offers space to stretch out and enjoy the views, while a hot tub provides a place to relax after a full day of enjoying the yacht’s activities. On the bridge deck, a large outdoor table invites guests to gather for al fresco dining, extending the yacht’s elegant interiors out into the open air.

The Zembra features a composite hull, twin Caterpillar engines, and zero-speed stabilizers for smooth and stable navigation. A 3,500-pound (approximately 2,500-kilogram) safe working load (SWL) jib crane mounted on the bridge deck and a 10,000-pound (4,500-kilogram) SWL, enable the safe and efficient deployment of expedition equipment. Built to travel anywhere in the world safely and efficiently, the Zembra can accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 10.
Following its delivery, scheduled for late this year, the Zembra will be available for charter through Northrop & Johnson.
