Amancio Ortega
Amancio Ortega, Inditex’s majority shareholder, has once again been named Spain’s richest businessman in 2021. In the second half of this year, Inditex increased its sales by 1.5% to 6,994 million euros, with an EBITDA of 1,866 million, putting the COVID crisis behind it.
In addition, Amancio Ortega continues to diversify his personal investments through the Pontegadea Group. This holding company manages Ortega’s shares in Inditex and receives his dividends. Until last year, Pontegadea invested all its resources in real estate in Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom, which it leased out. Now, Pontegadea also holds stakes in publicly traded companies: Enagás and Red Eléctrica; and, although it acquired a stake in Telxius, it has already sold its holding.
Independent experts value Pontegadea Inversiones’ real estate portfolio at 8,325 million euros, down from 12,076 million in 2019, but the group retains unrealized capital gains in the real estate sector. In total, its net worth amounts to 67,000 million euros.
