This Tuesday’s issue of the Official State Gazette (BOE) includes the Council of Ministers’ decision to reappoint Carles Manera, professor of History and Economic Institutions, as a member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain for another six-year term.
According to a statement released by the Bank of Spain, Carles Manera was initially appointed to the position in July 2020. Since 2023, he has chaired the Bank of Spain’s Audit Committee.
Now, the Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business, has approved his reappointment as a non-ex officio member of the Governing Council of the Bank of Spain for another six-year term.
Born in 1957 in Palma de Mallorca, Manera holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Barcelona and a Ph.D. in History from the University of the Balearic Islands, where he served as vice rector for Economic and Administrative Planning.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as the Balearic Islands Government’s Minister of Economy, Finance, and Innovation, and he chaired the Balearic Islands Economic and Social Council from 2017 to 2020.
He is the author of 11 books and has published more than 255 scholarly articles on economics and economic history. He has received various awards, including the Extraordinary Undergraduate and Doctoral Award, the Catalonia Prize in Economics, and the City of Palma Research Award.
