RCD Mallorca has confirmed the extension of Martín Demichelis’s contract as head coach of the first team through June 2028. The decision comes just days after the team’s relegation to the Second Division, a move that demonstrates the club’s confidence in the Argentine coach’s project despite the season’s disappointing outcome.

Demichelis arrived at Son Moix last February to replace Jagoba Arrasate at a particularly critical juncture. The team was in the relegation zone and needed an immediate turnaround to try to avoid being relegated. The club’s management turned to the former River Plate and Monterrey coach in the hope of turning around a situation that had grown increasingly difficult throughout much of the season.

Although he was ultimately unable to prevent the team’s relegation, the Argentine coach’s performance was viewed positively within the club. Under his leadership, Mallorca played twelve matches, recording five wins, three draws, and four losses. This improvement in performance kept the team in contention for survival until the final few matchdays, although the results accumulated over the rest of the season ultimately proved decisive.

The club believes that Demichelis has managed to restore some of the confidence of a squad that was going through one of the toughest stretches of the season. His ability to rally the team and compete against top-tier opponents has won over the club’s sporting directors, who see him as the right person to lead the new project in LaLiga Hypermotion.

The contract extension through 2028 also allows the club to plan for the future with stability. Mallorca aims to build a solid foundation with the primary goal of returning to the top tier of Spanish soccer as soon as possible. Retaining the coach was one of the first decisions the club had to make following the relegation, and it sends a message of confidence to both the team and the fans.

With this commitment to continuity, Mallorca is embarking on a new era marked by a sporting rebuild and the ambition to return to the First Division. Demichelis, who had already publicly expressed his desire to remain on the island even before the team’s relegation was confirmed, will now face the challenge of building a competitive team capable of fighting for promotion from the start of the 2026–27 season.
