Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is taking another step forward in its commitment to elite sports and international exposure by becoming the title sponsor of a team that will compete in the 44th edition of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE Sailing Regatta, one of the most prestigious regattas on the international circuit.

The project was presented this Friday at the Vorera restaurant in Palma during a meeting that brought together the crew, led by shipowner Hernán Mones, along with representatives of the hotel’s ownership, including Toni Mir, CEO of the Cap Vermell Group, and Eleonora Piazza, Director of Operations and Quality at Cap Vermell Grand Hotel.

The partnership places the resort at the center of one of the major events on the Mediterranean sailing calendar. The name “Cap Vermell Grand Hotel” will appear on both the hull and the sail of the boat, as well as on the team’s official gear, boosting the brand’s international visibility during the competition.

The team will sail aboard a Sinergia 40 (ESP-3773), a model designed for high-level competition that has undergone an exhaustive optimization process over the past few months. Notable improvements include the replacement of the keel and a new weight distribution to maximize its performance for the race.

“We have a good boat and a great crew. That allows us to approach the competition with enthusiasm, though also with caution. We believe we can finish among the top seven in the final standings,” said Hernán Mones during the presentation.

The crew is made up of Argentine sailors with extensive experience both in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE and in some of the most demanding competitions in the Mediterranean and on the international circuit, including Giraglia, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, Antigua Sailing Week, and Ilhabela. Carlos Scorticati and Hernán Mones Ruiz will share helmsman duties, while Julio Labandeira, a multiple Argentine champion in various classes, will be in charge of racing strategy.

For Toni Mir, this sponsorship means much more than just a presence in the sporting world. “Sailing is part of Mallorca’s Mediterranean identity, and this partnership allows us to support an experienced team in one of the major regattas on the international calendar,” he said.

In line with the resort’s philosophy

The CEO of Cap Vermell Group also emphasized that the initiative is fully in line with the resort’s philosophy, which is based on offering experiences that go beyond simply providing lodging and connect guests with the local area. “We have always wanted to partner with projects that reflect our understanding of Mallorca. Boating, sports, and excellence share the values that define our brand and showcase the island to the world,” he added.

For his part, Hernán Mones expressed his gratitude for the hotel’s support and emphasized the significance of competing under the name of one of Mallorca’s leading luxury tourism destinations. “We’re a group of Argentine sailors who have been competing in the Copa del Rey and other international regattas for years. Representing Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is a source of pride and provides added motivation to take on this challenge,” he explained.

The boat owner also highlighted the work done over the past few months to ensure the boat was in the best possible condition. “The ORC B class demands a high level of preparation, a perfectly coordinated crew, and an optimized boat. We’ve worked hard to compete at the highest level, and we’re really looking forward to it,” he concluded.

The MAPFRE Copa del Rey Sailing Regatta will kick off with official measurements and boat registration on August 1. Following the Practice Race, scheduled for August 3, the competition will officially begin on August 4 and run through August 8, when the awards ceremony will take place.

With this initiative, Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is solidifying its ties to one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic sporting events and reinforcing a brand strategy centered on excellence, the Mediterranean lifestyle, and international visibility.
