The famous pianist, showman, and pioneer of live electronic music, Jean-Michel Jarre, performed at the Amnesia nightclub in Ibiza as part of a series of special events featuring international artists celebrating the 50th anniversary of the legendary Ibizan mega-nightclub.  Jarre’s concert last Sunday featured a special format tailored to the La Terraza venue, complete with the lights, sound, and cutting-edge technology that characterize the performances of the virtuoso French pianist, who has spent five decades performing at impressive venues such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Pyramids of Egypt, and Tiananmen Square in China.

Jarre has an impressive discography of 22 hit albums, 85 million records sold, and countless awards. The artist, known for his electronic rock, new wave, and ambient music, is considered one of the pioneers of contemporary music and a visionary in lighting design and acoustic innovation, with a transcendental and unique vision of music and modern performance.

The exclusive concert at Amnesia brought together hundreds of fans of the virtuoso French keyboardist, who packed the La Terraza venue, where he performed a set divided into three distinct segments: an opening set and reimagined classics; collaborations and contemporary sounds; and the main set concluded with four encores of well-known tracks from iconic albums in his career, such as *Oxygene PT 19*, *Herbalizer*, *Les Chants Magnetiques*, and *Quatréme Rendez-Vous*. The performance was part of the club’s weekly Pyramid party and also featured Berlin-based artist Joplyn and Amnesia’s resident DJ, Les Schmitz. The show—performed entirely live—kicked off before midnight with a disco-style reimagining of his classics before an enthusiastic audience that was somewhat taken aback by the modern twist on his classics during the hour-and-a-half set, all set against a spectacular laser show, futuristic lighting, great sound, and a performance centered on the album *Oxygène Part IV*, remixes from *Equinox*, and her best-known songs. Among them were “Sex in the Machine,” “Oxymore,” “Zero Gravity,” “The Architect,” “Oxygène 4,” and “Stardust,” featuring remixes by famous DJs.

The new rhythm given to the songs didn’t get the audience—mostly middle-aged—to dance, as they were absorbed in the show and the scale it had reached inside a nightclub. In short: those familiar with the band’s discography knew what to expect and appreciated the show’s musical and visual spectacle.

The event is part of the program of activities celebrating five decades of music and innovation that Amnesia has fostered since its opening in 1976 as an avant-garde music bar founded by philosopher, thinker, and writer Antonio Escohotado.
