During the first quarter of 2026, the Balearic Islands recorded a total of 1.6 million overnight stays by tourists residing in Spain, a figure that represents 1.4 percent of the national total of tourist overnight stays, according to data published Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Between January and March, the archipelago recorded 447,713 trips by residents, equivalent to 1.3 percent of the national total. These trips generated spending of 134.2 million euros, with an average spending of 300 euros per traveler and a daily spending of 81 euros. These figures reflect the moderate importance of the Balearic Islands as a domestic tourism destination during the first months of the year, a period traditionally characterized by lower levels of tourist activity than the summer season.

Meanwhile, residents of the Balearic Islands themselves remained very mobile. In the first three months of the year, they made 915,190 trips, totaling 4.5 million overnight stays and spending nearly 438 million euros. On average, each traveler spent 528 euros per trip, while daily spending reached 106 euros, a figure significantly higher than that recorded by visitors who chose the Balearic Islands as their destination.

Nationally, residents in Spain made 33.2 million trips during the first quarter of 2026, which represents a 4.4 percent drop compared to the same period of the previous year. The decrease was concentrated in domestic trips, which fell by 5.7%, while trips abroad continued to gain ground, growing by 3.7% and consolidating the recovery trend of international tourism among Spanish travelers.
