The regional government
will actively participate in the 2027 edition of the Turin International Book Fair, where Catalan literature will be the guest of honor.
The Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sports will coordinate the Balearic delegation’s presence at the fair, one of the most significant literary and publishing events on the European continent.
It will do so through the Institut Ramon Llull and will request that a “minimum and representative” quota of authors, publishers, and professionals from the archipelago be guaranteed within the official delegation.
The goal, the Department stated in a press release, is to avoid centralizing representation and to ensure that “the insularity, unique talent, and vitality” of the publishing industry in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera are given a space of “maximum visibility.”
“It is a source of pride and a shared success that places our literature at the center of Italy’s premier publishing showcase, a market that ranks as the world’s third-largest importer of Catalan-language literature. Turin 2027 must serve as a window to the world for our creators from the Part Forana and each of the islands,” said the regional minister responsible for the sector, Jaume Bauzá.
The initial project includes the installation of a dedicated booth of about 150 square meters with a continuous program of activities, as well as the participation of a delegation of 20 authors from various genres.
This official presence will be complemented by an external cultural program that will extend to various locations throughout the city of Turin to promote the artistic creation, tradition, and language of the islands in a broad sense.
The event, which in its last edition attracted more than 230,000 visitors and nearly 1,000 exhibitors, will take place from May 13 to 17, 2027.
The Regional Ministry will work closely with the main industry associations in the islands’ book sector to coordinate a selection that highlights the preservation of our cultural identity and the excellence of our professionals on a stage of the highest international prestige.
