Es Baluard will host a program of free activities from May 16 to 19 in celebration of International Museum Day 2026, which will include, among other activities, an open house on Saturday and Sunday.

According to a press release from the museum, visitors will have free access to all galleries, the Aljub, and the terraces on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

These events are part of a program that also includes family activities, guided tours, and other experiences related to the exhibitions.

Additionally, on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., “Crossed Labyrinths will take place—a game and exploration activity for families based on the exhibition “Jannis Kounellis. Labyrinth Without Walls.” With this initiative, which aims to help visitors connect with contemporary art, participants will be asked to create their own path through an installation of transparent structures, corridors, and movable doors.

Following this, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, there will be a musical performance session with the artist Julià Panadès.

Additionally, on Monday and Tuesday, an identical program will take place at Es Baluard and the Maritime Museum of Mallorca; on the 18th, it will be open to Friends of both institutions, and on Tuesday, to the general public. In both cases, visitors must register via the Es Baluard website.

The tour, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Es Baluard and continue at the Maritime Museum, will consist of a guided walk through the Jannis Kounellis exhibition “Labyrinth Without Walls” and the maritime heritage of the Maritime Museum of Mallorca.

The event will be led by the director of Es Baluard, David Barro; the director of the Maritime Museum of Mallorca, Albert Forés; shipwright Antoni Josep Munar; and master sailmaker Josep Matheu Blanquet.

For its part, the museum explained that the goal of this program is to raise awareness about the role of museums as “a means of cultural exchange and as a space for enrichment, cooperation, the development of mutual understanding, and the promotion of peace between cultures.”

Es Baluard noted that International Museum Day was first celebrated 40 years ago and that, since then, an increasing number of institutions have participated, with more than 37,000 museums from 158 countries taking part last year.
