A new era in boating has dawned in the Mediterranean. The National Association of Electric Boats (ANBE) has announced that one of its members, entrepreneur Philipp von Arnim, has launched the Mallorca Electric Boat Club, considered the first boating club in the Mediterranean to operate exclusively with electric boats. This marks a major milestone in recreational boating. Moreover, this news is met with double the pride knowing that its base is on Spanish shores on the Balearic island of Mallorca. Its main objective is to offer residents and visitors the chance to sail along the Mallorcan coast with zero emissions, zero noise, and zero environmental impact, introducing a new model of nautical enjoyment aligned with sustainability.
The club will be based at Marina Molinar in Palma and will offer an innovative approach to recreational boating: a membership and corporate plan system that provides access to modern electric boats with premium services included. According to von Arnim, the idea came about after noticing growing interest among sailors and tourists who, upon seeing his electric boat, asked about rental or subscription options. This trend confirmed the demand for exclusive, sustainable experiences aligned with the transition to electric mobility at sea.
To strengthen the proposal, the project is being developed in collaboration with the Swedish firm X Shore, a leader in electric boats. This partnership will not only provide access to technologically advanced models but also opens the door to expanding the concept to other ports and countries, creating a Mediterranean and European network for sustainable navigation. Von Arnim, X Shore’s representative in Spain, compares these boats to “a Touareg of the sea”—powerful, premium, and emission-free—though their prices have driven the idea of replacing individual purchases with a shared-access system.

The Mallorca Electric Boat Club will begin operations in January 2026 with three boats owned by the entrepreneur. Each boat will accommodate five members and will operate on a reservation system using a reusable token once the assigned date has passed. Annual membership fees start at 10,000 euros, with more flexible options available for 14,000 or 19,000 euros, while non-members can rent by the day for 1,500 euros. The potential clientele consists mainly of international residents and property owners in Mallorca, particularly Scandinavians and Germans interested in electric boating.
The boats will be equipped with a fast-charging station installed at the Port of Molinar, allowing them to be fully charged in an hour and a half. Range varies depending on speed: from 90 minutes at 30 knots to over 40 hours at slow speed, with a recommended cruising speed of 11 to 13 knots for trips around the bay. If the club is well received, von Arnim plans to expand the fleet and establish new bases, including in Menorca. For him, the advantages of electric boating—lower operating costs, silence, and zero emissions—make Mallorca the ideal setting to lead an expansion that aims to establish itself on a European scale.
