This Saturday, October 17, the Pontevedra estuary will host the start of the Xacobeo Trophy, which brings together the 6-Meter and J/80 fleets at the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo for the sixth series of their league. The first race is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.

The forecast looks promising: a northeasterly wind, light swells, and clear skies, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees on opening day—something unusual for Galicia at this time of year. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with a slight decrease in wind speed. Forecasts call for winds between 14 and 17 knots on Saturday, with gusts that could reach 25.

The 6-Meter Class, with All Eyes on Alibaba II and Caprice-RH Privé

Among the teams arriving with the most momentum are Miguel Lago’s Alibaba II and Guillermo Rodríguez’s Caprice-RH Privé. Both are coming off an outstanding performance in the most recent King Juan Carlos / El Corte Inglés Master Regatta, where they beat Mauricio Sánchez-Bella’s Titia.

They will face off against Bribon, the reigning European champion in the class and winner of that same regatta, in which King Juan Carlos served as skipper. This fleet has made Sanxenxo one of the main hubs for 6-meter sailing in Europe.

The J/80s, in the final stretch of the league

For the J/80s, the Xacobeo Trophy is the penultimate event of the 2026 League, so the overall standings are entering their decisive phase. Among the teams that have set the pace this season are the Moura, from the Club Náutico Marina Coruña, skippered by Xoán Bermúdez de Castro; the I3D Atlántico, skippered by Guillermo Blanco (Real Club Náutico de La Coruña); and the Cactus Digital-Petrilla, skippered by Jaime Barreiro (Club Náutico de Portonovo), winner of the fourth series, held in June.

Also worth noting are Joaquín Juan Martínez’s Grupo Bazán and several representatives of the host fleet who will seek to capitalize on their knowledge of the race course: La Etrusca, skippered by Alba Lago; *One*, skippered by Adrián Domínguez; *En Zarza Dos*, skippered by María José Méndez; and *Laotra*, skippered by Pablo Rodríguez.

Two games to decide the series

The program kicks off on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the first heats and continues on Sunday, October 18, with the first race starting at 12:30 p.m. The winners of the sixth series will be announced that day. The event also reinforces the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo’s activities beyond the summer and its commitment to making sports tourism in Galicia less seasonal.
